BIOGRAPHY OF MADAM SARAH OLADEEBO SANNI-OBA JP
FAMILY BACKGROUND
Late Madam Sarah Oaldeebo Sanni (JP) was born on July 18, 1937 at Ile-Aranfa Sangote Saki Oyo State to the family of Late Pa Samuel Afolabi (Baba Pupa) a tailor and a farmer and Mama Grace Ayinbo Afolabi (Iya eleko). She was the first child and daughter of her parents. Her Grandmother, Omoyeni Ayinke Ojiele was one of the princesses of Okere Olarinre of Sakiland. Oladeebo was described as a gentle, intelligent and diligent daughter and was marked for greatness since childhood.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
Mama Sanni Oba attended Elam Memorial Primary School and Ajegunle Baptist Day School (1948-1955). She was a teacher at Kinnikinni Primary School, Kinnikinni for two consecutive years (1956-1958). She proceeded on a midwifery course to Iree Medical Center, Iree (then Western State now Osun State) between 1958-1961. She also studied at Adeoyo Nursing Home Ibadan within this period. She then proceeded on General Nursing Course to Eleyele School of Nursing, Ibadan in 1980 on study leave with pay.
MARRIAGE
Mrs Sarah Sanni Oba got married to Adebayo Aremu Sanni of Konki compound Oke-Sebe Saki in 1961. Her Christian Background further strengthen the faith of her Muslim husband who was earlier converted before marriage. The marriage was blessed with great children of high integrity and intelligent professionals. She was a caring woman and mother who enjoyed being around with her family members: the Aranfas and as well her husband relatives (the ‘Konkis’, ‘the Anwures’).
WORK EXPERIENCE
Having completed her Midwifery Course, her excellent, diligent, persevering, and persistent performance gave her the post of a Senior Midwife at Saki Baptist Hospital Ajegunle (now Baptist Medical Centre) on January 1, 1961. After the pursuit of a General Nursing qualification, Mama Dayo (as popularly calld) was promoted to the post of a Senior Nursing Sister in 1983. The Medical Superintendent of Baptist Hospital then was late Dr Victor Fatunla, native of Igede Ekiti. Mama Sanni-Oba retired in 1985 after decades of meritorious service.
ENTERPRENEURSHIP
After retiring at Saki Baptist Hospital, Mama established her own independent Maternity and Clinic commonly known as OLOMOPUPO MATERNITY/CLINIC Apinnite, Saki, Oyo State in April 1985 (the first registered private clinic in Oyo North Division of Oyo State then). The clinic has its annex at Wasangare Alabafe in Ifedapo Local Government Area in 1986. Apart from being a professional nurse, Mrs Sanni Oba was a well trained tailor, a kerosene seller and also opened a registered Patent Medicine and Mini Supermarket Store which was thriving well before she voluntarily retired again due to old age. Her dexterity, humility and excellence by Grace earned her the popular name ‘IYA OLOMOPUPO’; her clinic was celebrated with a lot of successful normal deliveries. Mama had delivered to babies who has grown up to be professionals of various disciplines in life today, all over the South Western part of Nigeria and in Nigeria as a whole
CHURCH ACTIVITIES
Mama Sanni was a very committed Christian who served God throughout her life at First Baptist Church Oke-Adagba Saki. She was a member of the Adult Choir, Women Discipleship, Ajolaye Women Society, hence was given a honour/award of excellence by the Women Wing of Christian Association of Nigeria, Saki West Local government on September 12, 2015. Anytime she visits her son in Ibadan, she was always before the Lord as she enjoys the spiritual nourishment in the sermon of Pastor Sunday Olabode Fakunle, the General Overseer of Amazing Grace Foundation Church Ibadan.
COMMUNITY SERVICE
Mrs Sarah Sanni took interest in caring for the needs of everyone around her both young and old. She made her pilgrimage trip to Jerusalem in the year 2000. She also travelled wide on vacation to the Republic of Benin as well as Mimesota in the United States of America in 2016. She was a member of Saki Parapo Elders Council before her demise. In the community where she lives and beyond no one approaches Mrs Sanni Oba for help and returns disappointed.
TRANSITION
Late Sarah Oladeebo Sanni (Abike Ogbo) who had hitherto enjoyed a very good health and through Grace got to the age of Eighty-Eight years solemnly passed to eternal Glory at the dawn of Tuesday, June 10, 2025.
